About your email list marketing: are you actually doing it?

In the quest for painless online income, new internet marketers chase Adwords, Adsense, affiliate marketing, article writing, seo, Web 2.0, etc. Many make nothing, and give up.

One thing is obviously wrong. I call it money chasing. Marketers jump from this to that to the other thing, make nothing much with anything, and give up, wondering who sold them this bill of goods.

And wonder they should. The key is to stop chasing money making opportunities and develop a real online business. Of course this takes a bit of soul searching, and some planning, and (gasp) some work.

But fear not. You can make money and build a business, with Adwords, Adsense, affiliate marketing, article writing, seo, Web 2.0, etc. Your own product can come later.

How do you do this? You start by building an email list for every project you do.

Let’s say you want to build a business in the dog niche. There are loads of affiliate offers in this niche. So you get a blog at blogger. You make a post. Now you have a blog, you can sign up for a Feedburner account. Now you can get people to subscribe to your blog posts via either RSS or email. You can see an example of this on my sites that pay you blog.

OK, that’s not a blogger blog but you can do this in blogger. ANd it’s not about dogs either, but it is an affiliate offer. The more advanced can do this in Wordpress on their own hosting. Or you can ftp your blogger blog to your own hosting. Cost? A domain name - less than $9 - and a month’s hosting - 5 or 6 bucks most places. Now you’re in business.

If all this sounds beyond you, it’s not. You just take this process one step at a time. You have to start somewhere. Now you can write reviews for affiliate products. You can get subscribers. You can follow up. Your list, and your business, will grow.

If you want more advanced email marketing capabilities, Aweber’s the way to go. Yes, it costs $19.95 a month. If I had to pick, I’d go with Aweber and my own hosted Wordpress blog, with Feedburner as the RSS syndicator.
