It’s been a while (again) since I’ve written. Here’s why. I’ve been working on simplifying some business procedures. It is taking time now, but will free a lot of future time for me.
One of those simplifications is only writing when I have something to say or something worthwhile to tell you about. Another is cutting down my email reading. One of the things that has been bothering me about my own efforts is the time I spend on reading emails. It really kills my productivity but it is a hard habit to break.
To simplify things I am whittling down the number of lists I am on. I am bombarded daily, no really almost hourly by marketing messages. And it is my fault, I hit the “submit” button for all those lists that I’m now on.
As emails come in, I evaluate whether I need or want to stay on that list. If not I unsubscribe. Joint ventures, curiosity, new affiliate opportunities, past purchases, and inertia (mine) have kept me from unsubscribing from many of the lists I’m on. But no more.
I’m either on or off a list when new messages arrive. The previous emails either stay or are deleted from my mail folders, depending on past, present, and perceived future value. It’s kind of like having clothes in your closet, and getting rid of the ones that no longer fit or that you never wear.
