This morning, in my inbox was an email from John Reese concerning Twitter.
I’ve been going on about the benefits of Twitter for a couple of months. But since I probably haven’t convinced you to start at Twitter, maybe John Reese will be able to. Here are some quotes, direct from John:
“I’ve been running some interesting tests and I’m already seeing some great traffic results — far greater than the traffic from Facebook or any other “Web 2.0″ service.”
“As a communications tool, Twitter is probably only 2nd to Email right now. It’s a great way to network with people as well as to drive visitors to any of your sites, blog posts, etc.”
“I think Twitter is going to really evolve into a “must use” marketing tool. It’s a great way to announce you’ve just made a new blog post, released a new product, or anything else you’re up to.”
End of John speaking…Now it’s me again.
I started on Twitter less than three months ago. I spent the first month just checking it out. Month two I picked up some followers and started following others. Month three I’m Twittering regularly, picking up new email subscribers, blog visitors, new FaceBook friends, etc.
I’m primarily using Twitter as a networking tool. I haven’t even begun to use Twitter’s other cool features to their full potential. Having direct access to people like John is, for me, the ultimate benefit. The thing about Twitter is that many big name marketers are big Twitter fans. Follow them at Twitter, and odds are good they will follow you. How cool is that?
The limits Twitter puts on the size of your posts, you only get 140 characters, makes you think about what you write before you post. So it can make you a more effective writer, just as Adwords does with it’s size limit.
But posting about your latest isn’t all you can do at Twitter. You can send direct messages to people who follow you, you can message anyone (those are the purpose of the @ symbols you see in posts) from within Twitter itself, and you can use Twitter from your mobile phoe, as well as any number of third party applications that work with or are add ons for Twitter.
As always, the early adopters have a big head. So get your name reserved at Twitter before someone else does. Here’s the link to my Twitter page. You can sign up - I forgot to mention it’s free - from here:
