Maybe Your Content Needs to Go to the Dogs

Today I was reminded again that niche topics for websites are all around, all you have to do is be alert while surfing the net, and you’re likely to bump into ideas almost anywhere. I’ll get to the dog part in a minute but here’s how this came about.

I was reading an article on MSNBC about Starbucks closing 300 stores and laying off thousands of workers. That was no news in itself as the recession is everywhere. And it did make me think again about an idea for a coffee site idea I have. I guess people may be unwilling to pay four dollars for a dollar’s worth of coffee anymore. But I digress.

The real eye opener was that at the bottom of the Starbucks article page there was a link to a story about the American Kennel Club’s most popular dog breeds of the year. I don’t really know what coffee has to do with dogs, but being a dog person I clicked through and lo and behold there was a nice slide show featuring said 10 most popular dog breeds.

And that got me to thinking, well here’s a ready made niche site topic, or ten of them, ripe for the plucking. Niche topics and website ideas are all around. You just have to keep alert when surfing.

I think Yogi Berra said it best, “You can see a lot just by watching.” Learn to see things through a marketer’s eyes and niche site ideas are all around.
