Stolen Content

Content, Strategy 1 Comment

Some of the content of this web site was recently stolen.

I ran the site through Copyscape, and found a blogger in the UK scraping my content. Normally I wouldn’t think too much of it, but his stolen content was pointing to a download link at one of my other web sites. So he was allowing others to steal my bandwidth also.

There’s a copyright notice at the bottom of this page, but that isn’t going to stop people from stealing content. And in my book if you steal my content, you are a crook. And on a personal level I think those people that make their living stealing others web sites’ content are scum.

I wrote to the legal department of eNom, his domain registrar. I’ve yet to hear back from them. I probably won’t hear from them, as they are in the UK, and will need to write them a real “in writing” notice, and not a virtual one.

Don’t let this happen to you. Check copyscape at least weekly to see if your content has been stolen.

Content is King

Content is King

Allan Gardyne has a complementary book called 77 Ways to Get Traffic. Yes I said it was free.

http://b4a.net/dl/77ways.zip

There is more usable content in this book than in most paid ebooks I’ve read. This book wasn’t written by a wannabe. Allan gets over a million visits a year at his web site.

Number one on Allan’s list for getting traffic is unique content. I’m all for that. This blog is 100% original, and the traffic stats grow every month.

The only thing I like better than unique content is a unique product. In a way it is the ultimate money making form of unique content. If content is king, then a unique content product will be your ticket to making some real money online.

But coming up with the ideas, the form, the outline, isn’t a walk in the park. Jay Jennings has come out with a great new info program that will put you on the right track to having your own unique product.

It is the best way I know to learn how to create your own product.

Content is king, but your own product is the king of the content you want to have.

Making Private Label Content Unique

I touched on this resource a few days ago, but here are some more thoughts.

When you’re out of your own ideas for content web sites, or want to explore another area with your online projects, the fastest way to get content is to use Private Label content. But as you are sharing this content with others, here are some things to watch out for.

  1. Is the content well written and information dense?
  2. Is access to the content limited?
  3. Can or does the seller of the Private Label content wholesale it to others?

Once you’ve got your content, you need to put your own spin on it.

Of course, if you are adept, you can do this the old fashioned way, rewriting the content manually.
So is there really any easy way to make Private Label content unique without doing it yourself.

Scott Foster to the rescue. Scott’s Need An Article? site has real people who’ll rewrite your content for you.

How to Avoid Duplicate Content Issues

One of the most discussed issues in the SEO field is duplicate content. Some say it doesn’t matter, some say avoid it at all cost.

For the long haul, I’m not a believer in either extreme. You sometime will find available article content that is as good or better than what you would write on the subject. So if it is good for your readers, it is good for your site. Use it if it is of value to your readers.

But notice I said sometimes. I am not going to jump into the numbers game and give you a formula. But I will give you a guideline that seems to make sense.

If less than 15% or so of your pages are duplicate content, you are probably ok. A safer number might be 10%. I have NO proof of this. It just seems to make sense. Just don’t overdo the duplicate content and you should be ok.

Of course with articles by others, you usually have to publish them intact. What if you are using already written PLR articles? What if you want to repurpose your own articles for blogs, article directories, autoresponder series, etc? Or maybe you want an easy way to rewrite public domain material.

Jeff Dedrick and Lisa Preston have a great site called Secret Article Converter. Their site is a swiss army knife for almost any content you need to repurpose. The best tool for the article twisting - spinning - job, as far as I am concerned. This isn’t some silly program that adds bogus intros and out-tros to your articles.

It is an all purpose content rewriting dashboard that lets you really make excellent rewrites in record time.

There are three other member benefits I won’t even mention here. I am sure any Internet Marketer can use at least one of them.

Go to Jeff and Lisa’s Secret Article Converter and check it out.

Yes I am a member, almost since day 1. Yes I use it. 5 star rating.

‘Nuff said. It’s the best tool out there.
