PDF eBooks Cheap and Easy
August 28th, 2006How To Courses, Product Creation, Uncategorized No CommentsHave you ever been to the point of tearing your hair out over the (what ought to be) simple task of making a pdf eBook? I don’t mean just any pdf conversion of a Word document. I mean one where you can have clickable links.
Over the last couple of months I’ve tried most of the pdf converters out there. The problem was always getting clickable links in my pdf ebook. The hyperlinks I generated in Word weren’t clickable in the converted pdf document.
Somewhere I read Open Office was the answer, but in the latest “stable” installation I tried the hyperlinks were still dead as a doornail. I did like it though, and if you don’t have Office it is a great free alternative.
I Googled the pdf hyperlink subject with all kinds of qualifiers, and finally stumbled upon pdfMachine. The good news was there was a free version, pdfMachine White, which I could try. So try it I did.
And VOILA! Hyperlinks that worked. Now to be perfectly clear, embedded text hyperlinks were nonfunctional. But those that I’d originally typed out in the Word doc like
http://www.pdfmachine.com/genp/download.shtml
worked just fine. So it was a simple matter to change the text in the Word doc file and make valid standalone URLs of all the hyperlinks I wanted in the text.
pdfMachine installs as a printer driver. You just write or edit your original Word doc file, and then “print” with the installed “Broadgun pdfMachine” printer.
I haven’t tried it, but I think you could have a completely free ebook authoring system using Open Office and the Broadgun pdfMachine White. I already had uninstalled the Open office word processor by the time I found pdfMachine. But I can vouch it works with Word, and can see no reason it wouldn’t work with Open Office.
A note for those that want to try pdfMachine. You’ll need to have Adobe Reader installed. If you’re doing pdfs you’d better have it anyway. You can find all the links for the free programs you need at my web resources page.
So now you have a great free tool to use with all that Private Label content. Check out Doug and Xavier’s PLR giveaway for a bunch of files you can customize to your heart’s content.
You’ll have the keys to making a bunch of pdf ebooks with Your Links in the text. If you use this free version of pdfmachine, just remember the limitation and edit out the embedded hyperlinks and instead just type out the entire url in the Word or Open Office doc you are converting.
And of course I feel compelled to mention that the paid version they offer does allow embedded hyperlink conversion. But hey, maybe you can get along without it, as I did.

What I Don’t Tell You About
August 17th, 2006Blogging, How To Courses, Reviews, Uncategorized 3 CommentsWhat I Don’t Tell You About
Every day I get bombarded with Internet Marketing offers I don’t tell you about. These “me too” internet marketers that send me all this stuff really don’t think much about what they are sending. They just want to see more money in their PayPal or ClickBank accounts.
This week I didn’t tell you about the re-promotion of Blogging to the Bank. I bought this when it first came out and found the promises empty and the promotion techniques questionable, as the results were achieved with a bunch of extra upsells that run the tab up to $300 or so.
Whatever you’d learn about making money with blogs is available free or in better form elsewhere, for way less money. People promote this who ought to know better. You can get a free blogging tutorial from the posts here. You can get great free Wordpress tutorials from Guido Stiehle. You can get Jay Jennings’ Six Steps course and plug it into your blogging system.
I’m not anti-Blogger, this site is a Blogger blog. But I am against promoting something that worked for a few months and then tanked. Google Cash was great when it came out, but is anyone seriously promoting its now with all the Google changes? Blogging to the Bank is in the same category.
Blogging To The Bank’s claim to fame was getting high rankings in MSN search in days or weeks. But guess what, right after Blogging To The Bank got popular, MSN changed the algorithm and Blogger blogs just disappeared from the first 10 pages of SEO results.
So Blogging To The Bank has been tricked up with some add-on bonuses and the price has doubled. Give me a break.
Go here and get the basics. Want to use WordPress instead, get Guido’s video course. Want to get a course that teaches basic online marketing, something that is easy to plug into your blog? Get Jay Jennings’ Six Steps.
That’s just one of the Internet marketing promotions I didn’t tell you about. After a while in this business, you learn what stinks and what doesn’t. Look, I can’t tell you about everything. And I won’t. But if you don’t see it here, there’s probably a reason. If you do, the reason is that it works, and offers real value.
That’s why I don’t tell you about most Internet Marketing offers. Got a question about anything that’s getting promoted? Just leave a comment. I’ll get back to you on it.

Ugly Quick Minisites
If you’ve been following the latest series of posts, then you know I have been writing about domains, web hosts, and html editors. I want to show you a minisite that I put together in Frontpage, using the basic techniques from Louis Allport’s “How to Build a Minisite in 30 Minutes or Less.”
The site is called WebHostingWithDomains.com. Too long I know, but I picked the name up on eBay cheaper than I could register it for, and it had a Google PR of 2 at the time.
I tried it as an affiliate site for different web hosts, but was getting nowhere with that. I did get some Adsense clicks, so I decided to convert the site to just having a couple of affiliate merchants, with the most of the emphasis on Adsense.
So basically I started from scratch. I wrote some very short content, just paragraphs really. I added four targeted pages and set up really simple keyword based navigation. I put 2 Adsense blocks and a menu bar on each page.
I used the basic idea in “30 Minute Minisites” to get this site up and ready. Oh it took me a little longer than 30 minutes, because there are 5 pages, not just 1. But I don’t recall spending more than an hour on it.
http://www.webhostingwithdomains.com
It is an ugly little site. But on day 1 of conversion I got my first Adsense click in ages. I haven’t even blogged and pinged the site yet. It did have a couple of old links left from the previous incarnation and the last Google update demoted the PR to 0. My traffic log showed the traffic coming only from Google.
So you can see that there is absolutely no reason you have to buy a template for an Affiliate or Adsense site, if you’ll just take the time to learn how to use NVu or one of the other free html editors. There is a short list of them at my Web Resources page, b4a.net. While I used FrontPage to make my site, it probably would have been easier to do it in Nvu. I’m just used to FrontPage.
Now I’ll be the first to admit this is an ugly little site, but it will get less ugly as I have the time to make it so. In the mean time it is up and making money. Not bad for a day’s work. It of course would take a few days longer to get indexed for a new site. But blog and ping can get that done in a week or so.
So use that 30 Minute Minisite video to learn how to make ugly quick minisites. Then make them prettier when you have the time.
